In Pursuit of the "Perfect" CDMA Repeater

RepeaterOneTM squarely tackles the aforementioned issues associated with repeaters. Repeaters equipped with RepeaterOneTM technology can not only solve the issues, but also achieve more. RepeaterOneTM does not require modifications either on handsets or on base stations.

Repeaters should make both the phone and the base station happy. An embedded modem in the repeater measures Ec/Io of pilot power and total power (RSSI), and performs gain compensation based on the measurements. This maintains constant pilot power at output of the repeater and maintains consistent optimal operating point even though there are changes in path loss, surrounding environment, etc.

The automatic gain compensation cycles based on the Ec/Io measurement enable

  • constant coverage area
  • simplified repeater deployment
  • minimized and controlled noise contribution to the base station
  • balanced forward and reverse link gains

Increasing Path Loss
Increase path loss and verify repeater gain adjustment.
The embedded MS permits control of the repeater FL gain to provide consistent pilot power into the repeater coverage area. The MS Rx and Tx levels remain constant

Decreasing FL Ec/Io
Decrease FL Ec/Io and verify RepeaterOne FL adjustment.

Increasing RL AWGN
Increase noise floor of BTS and verify RepeaterOne compensation.
